I love, love, LOVE Halloween. October 1st strikes and thus begins the countdown to one of my favorite nights of the year! During October I will doing a special TBT Halloween style. I will feature a past homemade costume. Hopefully they will get your creative cauldron boiling and inspire you to create your very own unique costume.
(Please excuse the poor quality pictures. They were taken back in the day when a Blog was just a silly word.)
This weeks costume is one of my favorite fall backs. It’s easy enough to whip together as a last minute costume and you don’t even have to spend money if you go shopping in your own closet. You can creep it up or keep it cute depending on what you’re in the mood for. You also have options for what type of doll you want to be. You could be a marionette, wind-up toy (make the wind up key buy cutting out a piece from cardboard and cover it with foil), broken china doll, Barbie or perhaps grab your other half and go as a
blowup doll ventriloquist and his dummy. For the Marionette control I used a small dowl, cut it in half and glued the pieces in a cross. I would suggest sticking with a light weight piece of wood, or dowl for this. I then wrapped a sturdy wire around the center of the cross, attached it to a headband and TA-DA! Marionette. This costume really can’t get much simpler.
You may want to complete your costume with a wig but I just curled up some ringlets and pinned in a bow. False lashes are a must and definitely try out some of the awesome doll makeup tutorials on youtube! Some years I will pick a costume soley for the makeup I get to do. Here are a couple good tutorials…one for a ventriloquist doll and a Barbie. And if you’re really a master of makeup you’ve got to check out MadeYewLook. This girl is a ridiculous talent and has the best Halloween tutorials. I’ve stalked her for a couple years now.
Happy Haunting Dolls!
